What women did at the home front
In the United States it was nothing new that the United States women were doing all they can to help the war effort. They even started projects to help around the community. Here are some of the proejcts that I will like to tell you about. The first is the civil volunteering within the United States. Women were trained to be firefighters, drive ambulances and provide emergency medical just in anticipation of chemical bombings that ever materialized during the day. Women were also drivers for the communities and for military personnel. The picture above is a woman driver waiting for military personnel.
Women also did other things, for example, rationing. Rationing was the only way for women to make sure that the military men were getting enough food. A lot of consumer's goods were limited because they had to be used for the war. Metals were used to make weapons and tires including gasoline were used for war machines.
Another part was recycling. Women pretty much recycled everything. The primary item that was in so much demand to recycle was metal. Another item that they recycled was paper. Women did not waste paper because it was used to make fuses and bones were processed into explosives. A cooking ingredient was also replace was sugar, women started to use lard instead of the common sweetener. Can you believe that they even threw away old car bumpers to scrap drives and even eat certain foods on certain days of the week.
Women of all races contributed to the war from working in the factories to rationing food.
